Confirmation Class Coming Early 2024

Youth grades 6 and up are invited to our 2023-24 Confirmation Class that kicks off in December! From December through May, young folk will be invited into regular gatherings in which they will learn about the fundamentals of Christian faith, the history and values of the United Methodist Church, and what it means to be a part of Christ Church NYC. Gatherings will include food and games, meaningful conversation, opportunities to learn through lessons and service projects, and more.

What is Confirmation? Confirmation is the ritual in which someone who has been baptized professes their belief in Jesus Christ and “confirms” their intention to live a life molded around the love and grace of God. For youth who were baptized as a baby, confirmation creates a sacred space for them to affirm their faith as their own and to begin articulating what their faith and church means to them. Confirmation is a choice, not a requirement, for youth who participate in Confirmation Class.

This year’s Confirmation Class will be led by Rev. Tyler Heston along with other CCNYC staff and leaders. Each participant will be paired with a “sponsor” member of the church who will journey through Confirmation Class with them as a mentor and friend. Below is a tentative calendar for the program.

Confirmation Class Kick-off Sunday, December 10, 12:00-1:00pm

FAQ:

What is Confirmation?

Confirmation is when a baptized Christian, usually in adolescence, professes their belief in Jesus Christ and "confirms" their intention to live a life guided by the love and grace of God. Most denominations prepare for this confirmation by offering a class that lasts anywhere from 3 months to three years, covering all topics theological and historical, with the purpose of creating a space for older children transitioning into adulthood to take ownership of their faith.

Throughout our time together during confirmation, we are seeking to create an authentic community among the youth, and that requires the ability to communicate directly with them. We would be communicating with the confirmation participants about workbook prompts, meeting reminders, theological questions, and service project planning.
