Black History Month Virtual Event

Thursday, February 24th at 7:00pm. Mark your calendar for our Black History virtual event. In partnership with St. Philip’s Episcopal Church of Harlem, the communities of Christ Church invite you to The Relevance of the Black Church and it’s Impact on Christianity in America: Then and Now. For more information contact Rev. Violet Lee at violet@christchurchnyc.org.

This evening event will situate the experience of worship and faith within the Black Church from the perspectives of practitioners across different generations. The dialogue will include two retired pastors of a predominantly African American Protestant congregation that transitioned from a largely white congregation in conversation with a millennial who is currently a licensed minister of an historic African American congregation. This event will be moderated by the Rector of the oldest African American Episcopal Church in New York State, the second oldest in the nation.

Drs. Dennis and Christine Wiley will address the historical role and function of the Black Church in American society. Minister Candace Simpson’s perspective will continue to ponder the current crisis of the church’s identity, it’s following and purpose in social and civic movements as an agent for socio-political change.
